What I Believe....

  • I believe Jesus is the son of God and my personal savior.
  • I believe Jesus died on the cross and was raised from the dead by his father.
  • I believe I am a sinner and without God's grace I would be lost.
  • I believe Jesus saved me!

  • Romans 3:23
For all have sinned; all fall short of God's glorious standard.

    Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

    Romans 5:8
But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

    Ephesians 2:8-9
God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

If you are not a Christian, I encourage you to read the Bible.  Don't rely on passages taken out of context, such as I have listed here, to form an opinion on the Bible or Christianity.  I recommend selecting a book, such as Matthew (about 40 pages), and read it from beginning to end.  If God speaks to you, you could gain the greatest gift available to mankind.  If God does not speak to you, you will at least have a fuller understanding of the life of a man who changed the world.

Unlike many Christians, I do not have a life changing experience I can point to as the moment I became a saved Christian. Due to my stubborn personality, it took many years for me to recognize God's gift of salvation. I grew up in a Christian family believing Jesus was my savior but not really living the life of a Christian. However during my early to mid thirties, I began to be drawn much closer to God and my hart began to change. About this time I met my now deceased wife and her family (Christians from the former USSR) who helped me to realize how important it is not to take my faith for granted. The passing of my wife in 2002 showed me God's mercy in ways I had never expected. It is true what James said: "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." By no means is my faith mature or complete. However due to the grace of God, I'm moving closer every day. Although I can not point to the moment I became saved, I know in my hart, thanks to Jesus, I am.

Some of my favorite Bible verses:

My favorite story in the Bible is the story of David (1 Samuel - 1 Kings).
    1 Samuel 16 through 1 Kings 2

Matthew 6:19-24 - Teaching about Money and Possessions:
19"Don't store up treasures here on earth, where they can be eaten by moths and get rusty, and where thieves break in and steal. 20Store your treasures in heaven, where they will never become moth-eaten or rusty and where they will be safe from thieves. 21Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will also be. 22"Your eye is a lamp for your body. A pure eye lets sunshine into your soul. 23But an evil eye shuts out the light and plunges you into darkness. If the light you think you have is really darkness, how deep that darkness will be! 24"No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Matthew 6:25-34 - Do Not Worry:
25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? 28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Matthew 7:21-23 - Know Him Well:
21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

    1 Corinthians 10:13
13...And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

    1 Corinthians 16:13-14
13Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. 14Do everything in love.

James 1:2-4 - Trials and Temptations:
2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

    1 John 1:6 & 2:4
6If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.
4The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
