The following praise song is by far my favorite. The first time I sang the song I was standing in church alone still grieving the loss of my lovely wife, about one year after she passed away. When we got to the line that says "On the road marked with suffering, Though there's pain in the offering, Blessed be Your name" my hart began to understand how God was using the loss of my wife in my life. When we got to the line "You give and take away, My heart will choose to say, Lord, blessed be Your name" I was in tears. I still cry every time I sing this song.

Blessed be Your Name

By: Matt Redman

Blessed Be Your Name
In the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be Your name
It is easy to praise the Lord when we live in such a beautiful country.

Blessed Be Your name
When I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed Be Your name
It is also easy to praise the Lord when we are surrounded by darkness.

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say
We need to remember to praise the Lord for all of the blessings in our lives.
This is something that is sometimes easy to forget to do, especially when
things are good. At the same time, we need to praise the Lord when things
are not going according to our plans.

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's 'all as it should be'
Blessed be Your name
Once again, it is easy to praise the Lord when everything is great in our lives.

Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name
As in Job's life, the Lord allows pain to enter our lives. James 1:2-4 states:
"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete,
not lacking anything." We need to praise the Lord for the pain as well.

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name
For me this is the most powerful verse of the song. Everything in our lives was
brought to us by the Lord and can also be taken away. We need to be willing
to praise the Lord even if he allows everything to be taken from our lives.

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say
After singing the prior verse, this verse has much more meaning.

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name
