Through
Alabama, Mississippi,
Arkansas & Oklahoma

2008 - May - June

Friday, May 23, 2008
DeFuniak Springs to Milton FL
Distance: 56.8 Miles

We though it was going to rain today. The rain was supposed to occur in the afternoon so we got up early, loaded the bicycle and had breakfast when they opened at 7:00 AM. We were riding before 8:00 AM. The sky was very gray, and very muggy, it seemed that the humidity was 100%. The really good news was that for the first day we did not seem to have a head wind. We were going west and the wind was from the south. At times it even came a little from the east. In addition the highway was along side the CSX railroad tracks and the highway was almost as level as those railroad tracks. For two old, tired, out of shape individuals who had a long bicycle riding day this was definitely a blessing.

Every few miles along the way we came to a village, crossroads, or town where we would stop, eat something and take a short rest. We got to the motel near Milton before 2:00 PM. The motel had a guest laundry so we washed everything that was dirty. We took showers and changed our motel reservations for the next two days. We are now taking our next rest day in Orange Beach, AL instead of Pensacola, FL.

We ordered dinner delivered to the motel, good thing as it is now 6:30 pm and it raining hard outside. We are inside, the bicycle is dry. What more could anyone want.
